One of my clients had an issue where, after removing google chrome, they could no longer click on links in outlook emails.  The computer will come up with the following error:

This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer

Which is very misleading.

Fixing the problem is a two step process;  first you have to reset your default web settings and then you have to reset some of the settings in the registry.

To reset your default web settings:
1.  Open  IE.
2.  Go to Tools->Internet Options.
3.  Click the Advanced tab, and then click the Reset button.
4.  Go to the Programs tab, and under Internet programs, click on  Set Programs.
5.  Click "Set your Default Programs", select your e-mail program and click "Set this program as Default". Repeat this for IE as the default browser.
5.  Click OK and close the dialogs.

To repair the settings in the registry:
1.  Go to Start->Run, type Regedit in the Open box, and click OK.
2.  Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.htm
3.  Right click the value for the .htm key and select Modify...
4.  Change the value from "ChromeHTML" (or from "FireFoxHTML") to "htmlfile".
6.  Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.html
7.  Right click the value for the .htm key and select Modify...
8.  Change the value from "ChromeHTML" (or from "FireFoxHTML") to "htmlfile".
9.  Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\.shtml
10.  Right click the value for the .htm key and select Modify...
11.  Change the value from "ChromeHTML" (or from "FireFoxHTML") to "htmlfile".

After both of these are complete, restart Outlook and you should now be able to once again click on links in an email.
